Samantha Harrington Author giving away free booksI met Samantha the night before the Manchester Author signing event in August last year. She dragged me out to a pub near the venue and there was entertainment galore. This week many of her books are on free as she builds up to her attendance at the West Midlands signing event.

Author Bio

I wouldn’t say that I wanted to be a writer from when I was little.
I only really started reading often when I had baby number five, as he was born very early and spent thirteen weeks in special care. It was then that I discovered my love for reading.
From then on, I was hooked. I read all types of romance books.
It dawned on me that I wanted to be more than a mum/reader/blogger. I wanted to write, as I have a very active imagination, so I put pen to paper.

I write romance – contemporary, dark and erotic.

I like to write about loss, pain and love, and what it’s like to fight for your happy ever after.

#SASE, AJ Campbell, Author signing, Dianna Hardy, Elizabeth Morgan, Fantasy, Kindle, Ninfa Hayes, Sandbach author signing event

So, it has been a while since I did any updates. Apologies for that, it has been a busy month or so. So, here are a few things to keep you updated.D A Lascelles Gods of the Deep Kindle Fantasy Swashbuckling

First of all, those of you in the North West of UK are welcome to come along to the Sandbach Author Signing event tomorrow (5th November) at Sandbach town hall. It promises to be lots of fun and will include not only signings but panels too. I am talking on two of them – Fur and Fangs (all about vampires and werewolves) and Urban settings, the magic within city landscapes. Both look to be interesting discussions. There are other activities on the day too but to find out what they are you will have to come along. Tickets are very cheap – only £5 on the door. It is also worth pointing out that a lot of the UK based Vampire Month alumni will be there including Elizabeth Morgan, Dianna Hardy, AJ Campbell and Ninfa Hayes.

Secondly, if you cannot get to the above event, you can get copies of Gods of the Deep or any of my other books from Amazon. I have an online order form for signed copies too which you can find here – Online order form. You can arrange to pick up your book at one of the events listed (and this list will get updated periodically as I confirm events) or you can contact me via this page or my email address to arrange alternative arrangements such as postage.

Thirdly, this blog may be undergoing a change of appearance sometime soon. This has now become my main site so I am going to be using it more and more as such. This means a bit of a rejig and maybe a change in image and I will be putting things like my bio and book info onto the home page and relegate the blog to another page. Look out for those changes as they happen over the next month or so.

Finally, things are heating up in other areas of bloggage. The blog I am an occasional contributor too – News from the Spirit world –  is going to be getting more from me. In fact for the last week or so, my latest story has been the front page. There is also a secret project ongoing in the background of the blogosphere which I will talk more about when it hits.

So, that puts us up to date in terms of what is happening for me at the moment. Hope to catch you all soon.

#MAEG2016, EasterCon, Friday 13th, Gods of the Deep, gods of the sea, GRR Martin, JF Holland, Kindle, Lauren C Waterworth, Paperback book, Pirates, Steampunk fair, swashbucklers, writing

Well, it has been a long time coming. It seems like I have been talking about a sequel to Gods of the Sea ever since the Pirates and Swashbucklers anthology first came out all those years ago. In fact, it was quite ominously Friday 13th April 2012 when I reported to you all that I had got an email from the publisher of Pirates and Swashbucklers asking me to do a sequel.

And now, four years and approximately three months later… you can buy the completed book in both Kindle and paperback formats. gods of the deep postcard

Ok, I admit I was slow in getting this done but this project has gone further than I imagined it would. Plus I think I can still claim a faster turnaround than GRR Martin at the moment. What started as an idea for a  relatively  small novella turned into a much longer work and now includes two bonus short stories that explore the wider world in addition to a newly edited and tidied up version of Gods of the Sea which now serves as what I describe in the foreword as being similar to that scene in a Bond film just before the theme music plays.

And that is not the only thing that is special about this release. In addition to the wonderful cover produced by fellow Steampunk market trader and artist supreme, Lauren C Waterworth, you also have internal illustrations derived from the sketches that she made when creating the cover to coo over. If you like the cover, by the way, you should totally check out her facebook page and see if you can buy prints of her artwork. .

The official launch will be taking place at the Manchester Author event on the 13th August 2016. You can buy tickets for this event here. There I will be signing copies of both Gods of the Deep and Lurking Miscellany. I am also attending another signing event in Sandbach in November and Chester in April 2017. Finally I am also an attendee at Inominate, the Birmingham run Eastercon in April next year where I am hoping to be on some panels again. If you see me at any of these events feel free to pop over and say hi. Also, if you want to pre-order a signed copy of any of my books you can order them using this handy form and they can be delivered to you at the event of your choice.

You can also expect to see me sneaking into some other peoples’ blogs and messing around in there, getting mud on all the furnishings. I’ll post links to these as they go up. In fact there is one here for the Addicted to Reviews blog which went up earlier today. Go check it out and give the owner some love.

Finally, I am staging a stealth raid on the Manchester Author event Facebook page this Thursday (21st June). I will be taking control of the mic around 1030 GMT and holding onto it like grim death until it is wrested from my cold dead hands at 11pm by JF Holland. Come to the page to check out what nonsense I will spout. If it is anything like my last page takeover, expect some musical links to my books and some extracts… If you are lucky there may even be dog photos.

Don’t forget… buy your copies of Gods of the Deep as soon as you can!

Amazon, Kindle, Pirates and Swashbucklers, Publication

I always thought that I had a good level of sang froid. That I could be cool and collected under the most stressful conditions. I’ve been a first aider and dealt with injuries at events, I’ve been part of a thin line of people holding back a rowdy crowd at a music concert, I’ve stood in front of a class of children who were throwing insults at me. I’ve done all these things and never let it show that I was affected. It was once said of me that I had a limitless supply of calm (I keep it in my pocket, I have rather large pockets).

I’ve also been involved in writing for a good few years and talked to professional published writers and therefore learnt a thing or two about what it is like to be a writer – getting that first publication, seeing your book in print and all of that cool stuff.

However, talking about it and experiencing it are two entirely different things.

What scared the hell out of me recently were two things. The first was seeing the copyright and contents pages for Pirates and Swashbucklers. There it was, my name, in black and white with a little (c) next to it and later in the contents page next to the title of my story. I am not aware of any writer ever describing how that felt or even having the skill to be able to accurately describe it. A cross between joy and abject terror is the way I would put it with an added touch of relief that there was finally proof that things were happening – publication was no longer a distant pipe dream, no longer an abstract agreement between publisher and writer that someday there will be a book in print, it was here and now in the real world. However, that description can never do the feeling justice. Let me add to it that I could not help but go squee when I saw it and have since thanked all the gods I could think of that there was no one within earshot and thus my reputation is safe.

However, fate had more in store for me. Yesterday there was a request on my Facebook page for a UK release of Pirates and Swashbucklers. Understandable, I am from the UK and many of the people who might want to read it are also from the UK. However, in its present form, the book is only going out to US customers. As a result of this request, I decided to pop onto Amazon UK to see what happened if I did a search for the book. This where I got my second scary surprise: there was a listing on Amazon UK for the kindle edition! And there was a listing, again with my name on it, on the Amazon webpage where anyone can read it and buy it (and review it… *gulp*)!

So, with my reputation as a cool, no nonsense, doesn’t care what is said about him type of guy now totally in tatters due to me announcing my fanboyish squeeing on a public blog, I have to ask the question: what other scary surprises are waiting for me out there? What scary surprises have other people had? Feel free to share any here…

Oh, and by the way, apparently the international release of the anthology will happen. So, people in the UK who don’t have Kindles will be able to get hold of a real live paper edition soon. It just takes a few weeks for things to work through the system. I will announce it as soon as it appears….
